With a single-split HVAC system, the temperature in individual rooms can be controlled by a thermostat control panel, which covers the furnace, air conditioner and refrigerant. Single-split HVAC systems are quite affordable, even if you need multiple units for various areas. Moreover, because of their self-contained nature, damage to one unit won’t affect the others. Nevertheless, although easy to do, installing single-split HVAC systems can be time-consuming if you have several units waiting in line. They also take up a lot of space since each indoor unit also requires an outdoor unit.
Multi-split HVAC systems are designed for medium to large businesses. They can connect up to nine indoor units with one outdoor unit, and the compressor can work at varying speeds. Smart systems can even detect changes in the air and make necessary adjustments automatically. Obviously, the biggest pro is that it reduces the number of outdoor units needed. Ceiling- and wall-mounted air conditioners can also provide greater versatility and control. As for cons, installation of this type of HVAC system can be costly because it requires more pipework than single units. Also, a problem with the external unit will likely affect several parts of the building. That said, HVAC maintenance for this type of system should be planned carefully.
Variable Refrigerant Flow or Variable Refrigerant Volume Systems typically come in two variants: Heat Pump and Heat Recovery. This type of HVAC system can be used in different business settings, including retail, hotels and large offices. Its main advantage is that it can be easily used and controlled in large buildings. It’s also the most flexible option since it can include modern green tech as well. The biggest drawback is the cost. VRF and VRV systems are expensive because they require a large outlay, so you may find yourself needing to purchase a lot. The outside unit may also have to deal with a lot of pressure, so you’ll need a backup condenser unit as well.
